NSFC Enrichment

Film Production
Film Production is a fun enrichment that will guide you through the stages of making a short film. From idea-building and storyboarding, through to camerawork and editing, you will work within a small team to produce your short film.
Producing a film is a great way to get to know new people, build teamwork skills and show your creative flair. It is also a great enrichment to put on your CVs and UCAS applications, as it will help to demonstrate skills and attributes that employers and universities are looking for.
To get the most from your Film Production enrichment, you must:
-
Attend every week: film production requires a positive and consistent attitude to teamwork and absence will mean your team not getting the best of you!
-
Be open minded: the ability to work with others is important. Try different roles and have a go at different aspects of filmmaking.
-
Be resourceful: Great short films do not have to be high production value. Think of creative ways in which you can tell your story without special effects!
What will you cover in this enrichment
Week One - Introduction to Film Production
In the first week, we will be guiding you through your Film Production challenge.
Film Production enrichment will involve you working as a team to create a short 2-minute film.
We will show you some excellent examples from last year's Y12 films. Then, we will get you into teams and producing some ideas for your short film.

Week Two - Planning your production!
This week, you will learn how to build storyboards. Storyboards are a 'visual script'; a way for you to plan your film and the types of shots you are going to use to tell your story.
We will also assign roles within your team (actors, camera operators, location scouts, prop and costume master etc.).

Week Three - Location Scouting and beginning your film production
This week, you will do a ‘recce’ of the locations you want to film. Once your locations, storyboard, props and costumes are ready, you can begin filming. Staff will be on hand to support you through your film production and will provide you with tips and guidance on getting the most from your production.

Week Four - Filming Day Pt2
This day is dedicated to you finishing the filming of your scenes. Once completed, your teacher will then guide you on how to use editing software (either on desktop or your phone) to piece your scenes together and create movie gold!

Week Five - Editing day
This day is dedicated to you finishing the editing of your film production, getting further guidance and support from your teacher.

Week Six - Film Festival (Screening and awards ceremony)
In the final week, we will screen all the films made by the teams!
Every student will receive a Film Production Festival Certificate. We will also hand out Film Festival Awards (such as best performance, best shot, best use of sound and best film).
No film festival is complete without popcorn, so we will make sure there is plenty available throughout the screenings.
