Psychology: Beyond the Curriculum
A look at Psychology topics and content which isn’t taught in the A-Level specification, there will also be opportunities to go beyond the lesson in a Psychology competition both within college and nationally.
What will you cover in this enrichment
Week One - Wellbeing and Positive Psychology: How to live a good life?
Looking at the research and conducting some activities which have aimed to make people happier, improve their quality of life. We’ll also have an introduction on where to do further research around Psychology so you can extend the subject into areas you are interested in.

Week Two - Attraction/Relationships: Who is hot and why do relationships succeed or fail?
Looking at the research around the world and in the animal kingdom about attractiveness and the formation and maintenance of relationships….and what happens when they break down. Students will also talk about current Psychology articles they have read.

Week Three - Parapsychology - Psychics, telepathy and ghosts---studying them and why do people believe in them?
Can people have special mental powers? What about seeing ghosts and near death experiences?- What does Psychology say about these phenomenon. Students will also talk about current Psychology articles they have read.

Week Four - Sleeping, dreaming, and other states of consciousness….is the you who wakes up the same you who went to sleep? (and what does this have to do with LSD?)
Do your dreams have a meaning? What happens when we sleep?....more importantly is the you who wakes up in the morning the same one who went to sleep at night? What is your consciousness and how does this link to things like LSD and dreaming?

Week Five - Forensic Psychology- Causing, Catching and ‘Curing’ criminals
What factors could cause someone to turn to crime? How do we profile and catch these criminals? What are the most effective methods to stop people reoffending once they’ve been caught?

Week Six - Marketing, advertising, persuasion---how to get people to buy any old crap
What does Psychology tell us about effective advertising? Is it worth the money companies spend on it? Can you use psychological tricks to persuade people to do anything you want?
